DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE


The Subject Community Medicine is the Successor of which has been previously known as PUBLIC HEALTH, PREVENTIVE MEDICINE, SOCIAL MEDICINE and COMMUNITY HEALTH. So the COMMUNITY MEDICINE  is the recent name.

            Previously the name of this Subject was “HYGIENE”-then PREVENTIVE & SOCIAL MEDICINE then COMMUNITY MEDICINE.

           In the Medical Science only this Subject Change the name time to time, of course having some utility, importancey and others.

 

The History of Community Medicine started for very beginning.

                        The Todd Commission in the year 1968 forcibly recommended that every Medical School should have a Dept. of Community Medicine.

 

          The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and London and the Royal College of Physician and Surgens of Glassgow established the faculty of Community Medicine.

 

        On the 31st March 1974, the traditional Medical Officer of Health passed into the pages of the History Book and was there after designated as the Community Medicine.

 

         Diagnosis of the state of health of a Community is an important foundation of Community Medicine. As used in the present context, the Community Medicine is a practice which focuses on the health needs of the Community as a whole, the combination of Community Medicine with “Primary Health Care” extends the functioning of both elements to a Health Care System which aims to change the state of Health of the Community.

 

In our daily life we are using the dictum -“PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE” by all class of People.Prevention having great role of Medical Science. If we follow and gone through this Subject from very beginning then we can achieve our moto and also helpful for the Suffering Humanity.

At first class demonstrations then group discussions  then tutorial class then practical.

In case of any practical work-1st demonstration then practical work –noted in the practical note book.
